Happy Friday! This post is little overdue because we drank this wine more than two weeks ago. After reading the story behind this one, I feel like I need to buy another, and another! The wine is Emily’s Cuvee, a Cabernet from Napa, 2013. For those of you who may not know this, (myself included) Cuvee is a French term meaning vat. Emily was the winery’s cofounder along with her husband, Dave Miner back in 1994. Unfortunately, she lost her battle with lung cancer in 2011 so this wine is made to honor her memory and a portion of the proceeds will go to The V Foundation for Cancer Research.
As you can see in the picture above, the wine is downright inky in the glass, with a rich ruby color near the rim. It’s 95% Cab and 5% Cabernet Franc. The wine is full-bodied with aromas of cocoa, black cherry and black raspberry. The finish is smooth and reminds me of Caymus’ Cabernet. You can pair it with a sharp white cheddar, some pate or grilled steak. This would be a great red to open for Valentine’s Day.
You can buy this from Binny’s for about $45.

Cheers my dears!
