How has your summer been so far? Hard to believe that June is almost over. I told myself that I was going to set aside an hour each morning to get some writing done and that hasn’t happened since the kids have been out of school. Oh well, summer is more about going with the flow than following strict routines, right? At least, that’s what I’ll keep telling myself.
Here’s a red blend that was featured as the wine of the month at Vintage 53 in St Charles. It’s made in Portugal and the name comes from a Portuguese explorer who dubbed the route from Europe to the Indian Ocean as the “Silk and Spice Route.” The blend is made up of a few grape varietals that I haven’t heard of before: 40% Touriga Nacional, 20% Baga, 20% Syrah and 20% Alicante Bouchet. The result is definitely silky with subtle notes of spice on the finish. The flavors of mocha and vanilla really round the taste out nicely. For $12.99 you can’t beat the value, plus there’s something fun about trying a wine from an unexpected region.

In the future, I’m planning to write about more whites so stay patient those of you who prefer them! I’ve tasted some recently, but none of them pack enough flavor or punch for me to write about. Ah, the sorrow of weeding out the good from the not so extraordinary. 😉
Enjoy the remaining few days of June!
Cheers my dears!
