    • Wine On Wednesday: 19 Crimes

      19 Crimes_Wine

I picked up this wine at Trader Joe’s thinking it was going to be a less expensive alternative to The Prisoner.  The grocer said it’s very popular and the cork carries a unique feature because there are 19 different corks describing 19 different crimes.  I couldn’t wait to try it!

      19 Crimes Wine

The verdict.  This wine took a little while to open up.  It was wound so tightly that it tasted almost sweet even with an aerator so it’s better to give it 10 minutes to breathe and that’s when the flavors started to make more sense.  There are strong notes of cherry and cedar spice with a light vanilla finish.  Would I give this wine another go?  Maybe.  For $11.99 I was hoping for something less sweet and more balanced.  There’s a Cabernet version that I might give a go instead.

Have any of you tried this one?  What’d you think?

    • Spring 2016 Wish List

Posted at 11:34 am by Lisa Cavallari
      May 23rd

The weather is finally warm enough to publish this post.  A few days ago, just the idea of wearing a sundress or sandals made me want to throw on an extra blanket and drink some hot tea.  Those days are so over.  Bring on the bare feet, sunkissed skin, chilled white wine and featherlight fabrics.

These are a few items I’d love to have in my summer wardrobe in no particular order.  I always choose a few items I’ll definitely get, but some are just to drool over because it might not exactly be in the ballpark budget-wise, but a girl can (and should!) dream can’t she?

Wedges.  I’m a little late to the party on this one, but this trend is still going strong.  They add height without sacrificing comfort.  I can’t do shoes that pinch or hurt.  It’s just not worth it.  I’d rather be able to walk or stand without having to discreetly slip my shoes off under the table.  Okay, maybe I’ll wear the painful shoes if I know I won’t be standing a lot… but mostly I stick with comfort.

Off the shoulder tops are also all the rage.  I love the idea of showing a little skin, but keeping it classy at the same time.  A great way to show off that spray tan. (Top photo: ASOS top, Bottom photo: The Fashion Sight)

      Clutch

Leopard accessories.  This is a classic pattern that is also considered a neutral, believe it or not.  I’d love a clutch or some shoes to add some pattern and zing to a few of my existing outfits. (Clutch: Charming Charlie)

Floral patterns are also very en vogue.  I’m still on the fence on this one.  Florals can go from the extreme of looking too Little House On The Prairie to matronly like The Golden Girls.  If it’s done well though, it looks fantastic.  A pair of vibrant floral pants paired with a classic white shirt or a floral top with jeans adds a pop of color and gives off a positive vibe.  Keep the print on the large side and avoid a head to toe look and you should be good to go. Lily Pulitzer makes the perfect shift dress for summer.  Her patterns and colors are bright and preppy and someday I will have have one in my closet.  I am still lamenting over the missed opportunity to buy one last summer when Target had an exclusive collection that sold out in minutes.  Not kidding there.  I showed up at 10 am the day the collection came out and the stock boy laughed at me when I asked where it was located.  All that was left were empty racks.  😦

      StitchFix-ad

My last wish item(s):  Stitch Fix.  On more than one occasion when catching up with friends I have heard many good things about this service which personalizes 5 items based on a preference quiz you take.  You can keep all of the items or send them all back, but I highly doubt that would happen based on the good reviews I’ve heard.

So what’s on your spring/summer wish list?

    • Wine On Wednesday: Summer Wine Events

Posted at 8:00 am by Lisa Cavallari
      May 18th

      Summer_Wine_Tasting

Hopefully, the hot, lazy days of summer are almost upon us so here are a few local places to visit with your spouse, friends or both!

Arlington Race Track offers an excellent opportunity to sample over 250 wines.  Pair that with caterers like Spiaggia and you are guaranteed a wine tasting like no other.  Tickets are ridiculously reasonable at $40 a person.  How can you say no to that?  This event is sponsored by Binny’s on Saturday, June 4.

Ravinia is another great option to check out over the summer.  From the music to the concert goers amazing spreads complete with miniature tables and candles to go with their wine and cheese, this experience can easily become an annual tradition.

Morton Arboretum offers Wednesdays, Woods and Wine.  I bet you are wondering if I got my idea for W.O.W. from them.  Nope, but thanks for asking.   😉  This would be the perfect excuse to plan a date night midweek.  Starting June 1 through August 31 from 5:30 to 8:00 you can listen to live music and enjoy some wine for $15 a person.

With so many festivals and events happening over the summer, there is literally something for everyone.  Check out Eventbrite for a head swirling array of more ideas. Then, enjoy yourselves, get a little tipsy and tell me all about it.

      Cheers!

    • Wine On Wednesday: Chimney Rock

Posted at 1:47 pm by Lisa Cavallari

      Chimney_Rock

Happy belated Mother’s Day to all you amazing moms out there!  I hope your family showered you with affection and some fun gifts.

My husband started the day with my favorite breakfast: Eggs Benedict. (I have an easy and awesome recipe for hollandaise sauce that I promise to share at some point.)  He also bought me (us?) a wine fridge so now we have the fun task of filling it.  What are your current favorites?  I want to hear what you like to stock up on for summer.

We ended the day with grilled salmon paired with a bottle of Chimney Rock Cabernet. When we were in Napa over the winter and passed this winery, we were so tempted to stop by, but time didn’t permit it.  The wine was superb. A classic Cab with deep, rich color when poured and hints of vanilla, toasted oak and lots of juicy fruits like cherry and blueberry.  This wine is produced in the Stag’s Leap District which is known for making world-renowned Cabernets.

      Cheers my dears!
