    • Spring 2017 Wish List

Happy Easter weekend to you!  To get motivated for spring and warmer weather in general, I’ve put together my annual list of items I’d like to wear this season.  Which also begs the question, what’s on your wish list this spring?

      -ds-1697-old-navy-midrise-harper-trouser-for-women-vs--lgPEMK

Blush colored tops and bottoms are popping up everywhere.  Well, why not?  The color is flattering on practically every skin tone and looks so classic and feminine.  I just picked up a pair of Harper cropped pants from Old Navy in blush, black and cobalt.  Right now they’re 40% off and, no I do not get any credit or freebies for sharing this information.  I just like to share the good deals when I hear them.

      Blush Outfit

      Blush Shift Dress

Here are some more examples of the “it” color for spring.

      meryl_streep_miranda_priestly_devil

“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” Miranda from the Devil Wears Prada said it so well I couldn’t resist inserting that line.  I finally did it though, I took the plunge and bought a pair of floral pants.  Again, from Old Navy.  The price was too good to pass up and I loved the pattern.  It wasn’t too hippie girl standing in a field of wheat while flinging her arms out and twirling around as the camera pans to an aerial view type of print.  You know what I’m talking about, right?  The carefree, light florals that you see on cute sundresses looks great in the store or with a denim jacket.  Until I try it on and realize that I’m just never gonna be that carefree girl standing in the field.

      Pixie-ankle-pants

These pants are much more, ‘me.’  Tailored, black background with bold floral colors.  Love it.  In fact, this was on my wish list last year.

      Flower Child

      This not so much.

With warm weather, I love wearing lots of shoes that are easy to slip on and feel comfortable.  I love my Toms, but I found a pair of tan quilted slip ons at Payless that mix it up every now and then.  The quilting on the shoes is another trend I noticed while I was subbing at our local middle school.  Not that I want to dress like an 8th grader, but some of those girls know their fashion and it’s good to break out of the mom rut that I tend to wallow in at times.

      Payless Slipon

For $19.99, you can’t beat the price.  Just wear them with no-show socks until they are fully broken in to avoid blisters.

      Nike Flex Trainer

I’d also love a pair of black Nike Trainers.  I usually go bright with my runners, but these would be versatile enough to wear with jeans on an errand-filled Saturday.

Moving on to (gulp!) swimwear.  There are so many two pieces out there and although a lot of people can rock this look, including some who have a great body image, but don’t spend every waking minute at the gym (more power to ya!), I’m just not comfortable in one.  Here are a couple of flattering one-pieces I’ve had my eye on for splashing around the pool with the kids.

      j-crew-stripes-swimsuit-

Love the preppy stripes on this one from JCREW.

      Michael Kors Swimwear

I like the high neckline on this Michael Kors one piece.  It protects the delicate skin on your decolletage.

Lastly, a girl needs a new handbag every now and then.  I could use a break from my regular mom purse and my shoulders would agree!  So something lighter and with a pop of color seems the best choice.

      JCREW Edit Bag

JCREW makes a beautiful Italian leather purse in this gorgeous green hue for under $100.

That’s it!  Have a blessed and wonderful Easter!

    • Make Your Skin Beautiful This Summer

I don’t know about you, but I’ve noticed 3 different issues going on with my skin this summer.  Below are 3 products that I’ve tried and loved to correct each problem.

Complaint: My face gets parched when I’m out in the sun, the pool and from cold blasts of AC.

Solution: Laneige has a set of masks that I found at an end cap in Target near the hair products section.  For $5, you get a Water Sleeping Mask that you can apply before bed and rinse off in the morning as well as the Multiberry Yogurt Repairing Mask.  I noticed a HUGE difference in my skin after using the yogurt mask.  I applied it, left the product on for about ten minutes, then rinsed my face with cold water.  My skin looked refreshed and definitely plumped up instead of dehydrated and tired.  It looks like you just stepped out of the shower after a good, sweaty workout that leaves your skin super soft.  I love that this mask also smells like a smoothie.  Yum!

Complaint: Getting in and out of the pool leaves legs and arms looking flaky and scaly and again that darn AC has the same effect.

Solution: Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream is another one of my current favs.  The cream is a rosy/tan color (see picture below)that gives your skin a soft glow and it’s packed with moisturizers so no more gator skin from the chlorine.  Tip: Apply this immediately after you pat dry from the shower.  The smell on this one is great too!  The light fragrance seems more like an expensive brand of lotion than one from the drugstore.  This sells for about $12 at Walmart.

Complaint: On my face, particularly my driver’s side, I am starting to see brown spots and freckles caused by the sun.  I even wear SPF 30 in my moisturizer religiously!  WTH?!

Solution: Try Ambi Cream.  The intense summer rays can cause sun spots even when you have on SPF.  I began applying this both in the a.m. and p.m. for about a week now and I’m already seeing a difference without experiencing any burning sensation on my sensitive skin.  It may take up to two weeks to see a total improvement.  The tube will last you forever because a little goes a long way.  You can find it at any drugstore for about $8.

There you have it, 3 amazing skin products to get you through summer and won’t put a huge dent in your wallet.

    • Spring 2016 Wish List

Posted at 11:34 am by Lisa Cavallari
      May 23rd

The weather is finally warm enough to publish this post.  A few days ago, just the idea of wearing a sundress or sandals made me want to throw on an extra blanket and drink some hot tea.  Those days are so over.  Bring on the bare feet, sunkissed skin, chilled white wine and featherlight fabrics.

These are a few items I’d love to have in my summer wardrobe in no particular order.  I always choose a few items I’ll definitely get, but some are just to drool over because it might not exactly be in the ballpark budget-wise, but a girl can (and should!) dream can’t she?

Wedges.  I’m a little late to the party on this one, but this trend is still going strong.  They add height without sacrificing comfort.  I can’t do shoes that pinch or hurt.  It’s just not worth it.  I’d rather be able to walk or stand without having to discreetly slip my shoes off under the table.  Okay, maybe I’ll wear the painful shoes if I know I won’t be standing a lot… but mostly I stick with comfort.

      asos-long-sleeve-one-shoulder

      the-fashion-sight-off-the-shoulder

Off the shoulder tops are also all the rage.  I love the idea of showing a little skin, but keeping it classy at the same time.  A great way to show off that spray tan. (Top photo: ASOS top, Bottom photo: The Fashion Sight)

      Clutch

Leopard accessories.  This is a classic pattern that is also considered a neutral, believe it or not.  I’d love a clutch or some shoes to add some pattern and zing to a few of my existing outfits. (Clutch: Charming Charlie)

      hm-1-floral-pants

Floral patterns are also very en vogue.  I’m still on the fence on this one.  Florals can go from the extreme of looking too Little House On The Prairie to matronly like The Golden Girls.  If it’s done well though, it looks fantastic.  A pair of vibrant floral pants paired with a classic white shirt or a floral top with jeans adds a pop of color and gives off a positive vibe.  Keep the print on the large side and avoid a head to toe look and you should be good to go. Lilly-Pulitzer-Womens-Janice-Shift-Dress-Sea-Blue-12-0

      Lilly-Pulitzer-Womens-Swirly-Dress

Lily Pulitzer makes the perfect shift dress for summer.  Her patterns and colors are bright and preppy and someday I will have have one in my closet.  I am still lamenting over the missed opportunity to buy one last summer when Target had an exclusive collection that sold out in minutes.  Not kidding there.  I showed up at 10 am the day the collection came out and the stock boy laughed at me when I asked where it was located.  All that was left were empty racks.  😦

      StitchFix-ad

My last wish item(s):  Stitch Fix.  On more than one occasion when catching up with friends I have heard many good things about this service which personalizes 5 items based on a preference quiz you take.  You can keep all of the items or send them all back, but I highly doubt that would happen based on the good reviews I’ve heard.

So what’s on your spring/summer wish list?

    • Spring Wish List 2015

Posted at 7:00 am by Lisa Cavallari
      Apr 15th

Spring weather is finally here and it makes me want to bust into a happy dance!  Besides enjoying the outdoors with the kids, the warm weather motivates me to rotate everyone’s closets, toss out anything old and see where each wardrobe could use a few key pieces.

Here are a few things that are on my spring wish list:

knit maxi dressMaxi dress.  You could pair it with a denim jacket, add a belt or pair it with a long necklace.  Dresses are so effortless in the summer. I found this one at Nordstrom’s Junior section known as Brass Plum for $39.  The fabric is extremely soft and the cut, super flattering.

      aviator

Sunglasses.  We all need these and I strongly recommend the ones from BP.  I bought a pair last year that lasted into the fall without a scratch on the lenses and I was tough on them, believe me!  For $12 each I bought an oversized black pair and some gold aviators this year.

      Knotted tank

Knotted tank.  Old Navy had these tanks with a knotted back on sale for $3 a piece last weekend.  I bought a couple and so did my shopping buddy.  They’re perfect.  You can wear them to the park, working out or bopping around running errands.

      Kate-Middleton-shoes

Nude heels.  Okay this one is not necessarily warm-weather induced.  I just need a classic pair of shoes and these are great year-round.  They go with everything and make legs look a mile long…plus Kate wears hers over and over again which proves their versatility is Duchess-approved.

      track pant 2

Track pants.  This is one that I would have to try on before I am completely committed, but they look super comfy and are look of the moment.

Any accessories or trends that stand out for you this spring?  Gingham, mesh or maybe something else that strikes a chord with you?

      Toms

Yesterday, I finally got one of the items from my list last year.  Better late than never, right?
