Home Is Where The Haggis Is

There is something to be said for breaking out of a routine (or rut, as I like to call it) and trying something new.  I do this with recipes, working out, planning vacations, wine, you name it.  Of course, some of those recipes can be a complete flop and same goes for the wine, but when you find something you love it makes it all the sweeter.  Where have you been my whole life you think and into the sacred recipe box it goes along with all the other tried-and-true favorites.

I took this chance the other day when I was stocking up at Costco.  I was veering toward my usual $6.99 Kirkland Chardonnay, when I spied their Signature Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2013 first.  The rating it had received from Wine Enthusiast was outstanding at a solid 100 points.  That rating bolstered my confidence as well as the price tag; for $12.99 I bought two bottles.  After trying it, I think I need to get some more before the holiday season arrives.

The Russian River Valley has a longer growing season than most regions in Napa which make it ideal for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes and give those wines more depth and richness.  (Nerd Alert) I did not know any of this and I am simply restating what I just read because I was curious about this region.

Let’s get down to business and say why this wine is worthy of your attention.  If you like apples, pear, fig along with a spicy, oakey finish that doesn’t quit (lingering on the palette long after the first sip), then you must try this wine as soon as humanly possible.
