Happy Easter!  What a beautiful day outside. We went from having the heat on this morning and switched over to the a/c by the afternoon.  Crazy, but I’ll take it.

Last night I put the girls baskets together (as I am sure a lot of you moms were doing as well).  Here is how they turned out.

For Easter dinner, we kept it simple with ham, potatoes au gratin, crusty bread, ambrosia salad and lemon cake for dessert.  I couldn’t resist making the salad.  My Grandma Ezarski would make it each year and my brother and I devoured it as kids.

As an aside, Target had some cute Easter straws.  I couldn’t resist.

I pulled the bunny napkin idea from Martha Stewart. I think I got it pretty close to her model.

Like I said, pretty close, but not perfect.   😉  I hope you all had an enjoyable Easter.

    • Last-Minute Easter Ideas

Here are some easy ways to get ready for Easter this week.

      • Decorate Easter Eggs.  Sydney and Olivia decorated theirs yesterday.  Is this tradition becoming dated?  I would think not, right?  Anyway, they had loads of fun.

      • Find some Easter stories to read together.  We found some adorable Easter-themed books at the library.  My childhood favorite was Humbug Rabbit.  It has beautiful illustrations and combines two stories into one.

      • Prepare the baskets.  For Easter Sunday, I found a cute idea using a galvanized bucket, painting it with chalkboard paint and writing the child’s name on it.  That will be Olivia’s basket.  We already have plenty of Easter baskets around here and this is something that can be re-purposed for organizing toys or collecting rocks and shells at the beach.

For Sydney, my mom suggested opening a new umbrella (a gift from Mr. Bunny) and placing all of her Easter goodies in it.  I love that idea and will try to take some pictures to share with all of you.

Enjoy your activities!  Do you have some of your own traditions or ideas to share?

    • Hearts and Birch

It snowed today. The girls were busy piling stuffed animals on the foyer of the stairs and jumping carefully down into it.  I was bored so I decorated the mantle for Valentine’s Day and snapped pictures.

      IMG_3241

I filled the hurricane candle holders with a bag each of conversation hearts; reserving a third bag entirely for the girls who were eyeing the candy like a pack of wolves.  If I ration them carefully, I can make it last all the way until Valentine’s Day.

My husband and I received this heart ornament as a parting gift from our hotel in Mexico reminding us that part of our hearts will always stay at the resort.  That sweet gesture instantly brought tears to my eyes.  The staff at Las Ventanas are such lovely people.  We look forward to going back and collecting a few more in the years to come.

The heart garland is from the Target dollar bin.  I contemplated making one myself, but it probably would have turned out like the “nailed it” pictures from Pinterest.  Plus, how can you beat one dollar?

A cinnamon-scented candle and whimsical heart dish towel also from Target’s dollar bin.

      Brrrr!  Still snowing.

Time for some tea, a soft throw and a good book – Grimm’s Fairy Tales if you are wondering – and I was able to entice the girls to listen to a few stories before they yawned and went back to jumping.

Piping hot!  For those of you enduring this winter, I hope you are staying warm and keeping busy.

    • Christmas 2013

Before 2014 arrives, I wanted to post a few pictures from the Christmas Eve dinner that my husband and I hosted this year.

We spent the day before washing china, stemware, serving platters, setting the tables and preparing the brandy ice.  Okay, why does my husband’s brandy ice look so much better than the time I tried it?  I might have to add this picture to that post.

      IMG_3073

Hard to believe that it is already over.  I (almost) forgot how much planning and hard work actually went into it.  Notice the orange pepper grinder thoughtfully placed at my dad’s place setting.  The man loves pepper.

      IMG_3074

The place card holders and napkins were ideas I pulled from Pinterest. The sugared cranberries came from a suggestion by fellow blogger Slim Paley.  My only regret is that I wish I could have slowed down time so that I could appreciate the whole evening a little more.

The kids table.  Add a few adults who are kids at heart to it too.

      IMG_3071

      The guests have arrived.

      IMG_3076

Sydney and Olivia enjoying time with their cousins.  By the way, that strawberry tree was completely eaten by the end of the evening.

      IMG_3080

May you all have a blessed and happy 2014.
